One of the state’s first great plantation houses, Belle Mont reflects Thomas Jefferson’s influence on early American architecture. The hilltop mansion’s floor plan even resembles one of Jefferson’s own architectural drawings.

Confederate Memorial Park

The site of Alabama’s only Old Soldiers Home for Confederate veterans — in operation from 1902 to 1939 — now features a Civil War museum, covered pavilions, nature trails and two Confederate cemeteries.
