Jewish Genealogy Center Opens in Germany

A new resource for helping Jews of Germanic descent connect to their ancestral past opened in Wurzburg, Germany, in October 2002. The Ephraim Gustav Hoenlein Genealogy Project is a research center created by the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation in partnership with the Jewish community of Wurzburg. The center’s namesake fled Nazi Germany to live with his family in the United States. Ephraim’s son, Malcolm Hoenlein, attended the dedication of the new center. “It is important for the younger generation to be able to find out about and explore their history,” he says. Another Lauder Foundation project is in the works for this year: The Chorev Centre will house Jewish students who participate in educational programs, summer camps and seminars.
