What do you get when you mix a bunch of genealogists with how-to classes and an exhibit hall full of software vendors, data services, publishers, photo restorers and genealogy societies? Sounds like a family history conference to us.

“Genealogy conferences promote new tools, new sources and new methods available to researchers,” says Linda Herrick Swisher of Lansing, Ill. “I always come away from a conference feeling energized and inspired.”

Dae Powell traveled last year from his home in Grand Prairie, Texas, to the Family History Expo in Mesa, Ariz. “The spirit of cooperation and love of family history pervaded the whole affair. Everyone was available to help everyone else.”

Now is the time to start planning for travel to 2010 genealogy events. Don’t worry if you can’t make the biggest gatherings, listed below: Many state and local genealogical societies and libraries hold excellent conferences and workshops.
