Looking for your Mountain State ancestors? Check out West Virginia’s Vital Research Records Project <www. wvculture.org/vrr>. Click Birth, Marriage or Death to search a database on first and last name (you can choose exact or similar spellings), county and year. Results link to scanned images of the original records, though images are missing or incomplete in some cases.

The database is richest in death records, with information from most counties up to 1954. Birth records are available for six counties and stop at 1929; six counties’ marriage records cover various years. To see more West Virginia resources, visit the site’s Genealogy Corner <www.wvculture.org/ history/genealog.html>.
