Going to Gettysburg

Gettysburg National Military Park is located in Adams County, Pa., about 140 miles west of Philadelphia and 86 miles north of Washington, DC. Start your visit at the museum and visitor center, located at 1195 Baltimore Pike (Route 97) and also accessible from Taneytown Road (State Rt. 134). The center features the 22,000-square-foot Gettysburg Museum of the Civil War, the film “A New Birth of Freedom,” narrated by Morgan Freeman, and the restored Gettysburg Cyclorama, which depicts Pickett’s Charge. The Resource Room at the end of the museum galleries can help you research ancestors who served at Gettysburg.

You can arrange a battlefield tour at the center. Options include a Gettysburg Licensed Battlefield Guide bus tour, a personalized Licensed Battlefield Guide car tour, or a self-guided audio CD tour, available for purchase in the Museum Bookstore. Licensed tours and tickets for the museum, film and Cyclorama can be purchased in advance.

The museum and visitor center, operated by the Gettysburg Foundation, is open daily except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
