Using the American Memory Collection with Shannon Combs-Bennett
In her half-hour video class called Using the American Memory Collection,
Shannon Combs-Bennett shows you how to sift through the Library of Congress’ American Memory Collection website, and discover a vast array of digitized photographs, filmstrips, newspapers, music, and more to augment your US genealogy research.
Here are some of Shannon’s tips:
- The search features are great, but they are not full text searches. It pulls up tags, subjects, titles, and authors
- Use the “browse by topic” feature to find topics that would pertain to your research
- When in doubt, use the ask an archivist/librarian links. They are extremely helpful and will reply very quickly to your queries.
