The Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum ® in partnership with American Ancestors launched The Boston Tea Party Descendants Program ® in March 2023, as a part of the museum’s initiatives for the 250th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, which occurred on December 16, 1773.
The Boston Tea Party Descendants Program offers several different membership options depending on qualifying ancestors. These are divided into Lineage, Eyewitness to History, and Co-Conspirator. Lineage and Eyewitness to History memberships require an application process and vetting of application materials by genealogists from American Ancestors, while the Co-Conspirator tier is for anyone who wishes to research and explore the family history of the Boston Tea Party, and receive some program benefits.

This program allows anyone with a family tree connection to an ancestor that took part in the Boston Tea Party to join the program, with all applications vetted by experts at American Ancestors, America’s oldest and largest genealogical society. The Boston Tea Party Descendants Program fosters a collaborative membership with Descendant members dedicated to preserving and honoring the memories of those who actively participated in the Boston Tea Party, as well as those who bore witness to the historic event. The Boston Tea Party Descendants Program seeks to continue to foster interest in genealogical connections to participants in the Boston Tea Party, their families, and those involved in this “single most important event leading up to the American Revolution.” As we celebrate America 250, we hope that more people will want to explore their own Roots of Revolution with the Boston Tea Party Descendants Program.
For America’s 250th year, the Boston Tea Party Descendants Program will be offering a discount on our Application Fee for Lineage and Eyewitness Members. $250 for the Application Fee, with first year of membership dues included! Please Visit our Website for more information.
When researching ships involved in the American Revolution, ShipIndex.org is your best possible source. The database contains indexes to over two dozen volumes specifically about the Revolution – including the Navy’s multi-volume collection of Naval Documents – and is the best place to start when researching those vessels. (“Naval Documents of the American Revolution” is freely available online, and each volume has an incredibly extensive index. Anyone searching for Revolutionary War ancestors with naval connections should definitely check those indexes for relevant family names.)
The ShipIndex.org database is not limited to the American Revolution, though; it covers ships of any time period and any type – merchant ships, naval vessels, riverboats, tugboats, cruise ships, passenger liners, and any others you’re researching, regardless of the reason.
With a database of close to 4 million citations, and covering just about any vessel from any time period, ShipIndex.org helps you learn about the ships in your ancestors’ lives, and discover more about your ancestors by researching the ships that they served on, sailed on, emigrated on, built, owned, captained, or vacationed on, and much, much more. There’s no other resource like ShipIndex.org for doing research about ships.
